The folks at Zion aren’t sure when their annual sour beef dinner began. It was well established in the 1950s according to some of the ladies who then and now marinate the beef and boil the dumplings for the meal. It may have even evolved out of the oyster dinners the church hosted in the 1920s. No matter. When Zion’s German church members open the doors to the historic Adlersaal on Oct. 26 and 27, the years of experience will pay off in tangy gravy, kartoffelkloesse, and all around gem?tchlichkeit. Raise a glass of m?rzen and toast tradition.
