It’s not inherently a breakfast sandwich—we just always find ourselves here in the morning, and, of course, there’s the coffee thing, and the bagel thing, fine, maybe it is a decidedly breakfast thing. The breakfast sandwich in question? The lox and the works on a bagel. And the Daily Grind’s version is bombing—smoked salmon or Nova lox, as opposed to just plain lox (which is not smoked), cream cheese, capers, red onion, all of which are standard. But they add sprouts and cucumber, which make for great textural contrast and help cut the rich fish and cream cheese. Best part? ONLY SIX BUCKS. We’ve seen lesser versions offered around town for $10 or even $12. Protip: make sure they actually toast your bagel if you request it that way (which you should) and be prepared to wait during peak hours.
