School standardized-test cheating

Of all the people involved in standardized testing to evaluate school performance, test-taking students have the least reason to cheat—and the most to lose if their teachers or principals cheat to achieve fraudulently inflated scores. Baltimore City’s test-cheating scandal, which involved hundreds of test booklets with systematically altered answers, pales in comparison to those in other cities, such as Atlanta and Washington, D.C., where cheating was far more widespread. But the message it sends to students—that the adults in charge of their education are willing to sacrifice integrity in order to make fake gains—is immeasurably harmful.
