Best Recreational Sport: Disc Golf

Tempting as it may be to hurl plastic discs (or any object, for that matter) at any one of the city’s 83 speed cameras, resist the urge to get arrested and instead flick Frisbees at the 18-hole disc golf course in Druid Hill Park. A short drive down Greenspring Avenue brings you to the course entrance. The front nine “holes”—chain or wood baskets suspended several feet off the ground—are on the right side of the entrance. The back nine, on the left. It’s similar to traditional golf: one point is incurred each time the disc is thrown, and the object is to emerge from the course with the lowest total score. On a recent visit, two players described Frisbee golf as “a fun little hobby,” but if their head bandanas were any indication, this sport is anything but.
