It takes forever to get to the beach#8212;stupid Bay Bridge traffic#8212;and, no matter how delightful it is to swim in the reservoirs, it's illegal, and Central Booking isn't a nice place to towel off. So where can hot and sweaty Baltimoreans go to cool off during the humidity haze of summer? The municipal pools! There are a ton of them spread out throughout the city. They are also startlingly cheap#8212;$1-$1.50 a visit. The city considered not opening some of them at all this season due to budget constraints#8212;a scary thought after a scorching summer#8212;but they were all open through Labor Day, thanks to a few private benefactors.
