Baltimore Living
Best Place to Eavesdrop
Public transportation

The screaming children, muttering drunks, and cell-phone yellers cause many of us to reach for the ear-buds when we get on the bus. But every time we get on, turn on, and zone out, we also block out the best parts of city living. The very word “bus” comes from the Latin “omnibus,” for everybody. And sure, we rarely see our wealthiest neighbors on MTA, but we still get to interact with (or eavesdrop on) a wide range of the city’s humanity. Instead of escaping into your music or your cell phone, listen to the people around you. They’re fascinating. There’s no reason to watch “reality” TV when you can live in the reality of the city, listening to people talking to each other.
