Druid Hill Park

A fun game to play as a cyclist is the “What’s the shortest distance I can ride and be in a place radically different than the city?” game. Seems like every year we’ve been playing, the answer’s been different: the increasingly country roads past Woodlawn, the bamboo forests and old rail stations along the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail, the winding, wooded Gunpowder River along the NCR Trail. Even more fun is adding a “if you only have one hour” to that question. Then, you’ll find us at Druid Hill Park, not so much chasing around the reservoir—which, post-repaving is pretty nice—but sweating up and down the old service roads in the woods or along the newer portions of the Jones Falls Trail, or watching people much more in-shape than us training for cyclocross racing.
