It’s no mystery why Don Scott’s WJZ morning show co-anchor Marty Bass has been a frequent Best of Baltimore honoree. Charm City’s very own Ron Burgundy, Bass seems to live each moment just squirming for someone to dare him to do something, anything. Hate him or love him, the man has no shame. But this gosh-gee-me-really-wow routine would have tanked eons ago if not for Scott’s cool. With his calm but agile baritone phrasing, Scott somehow ballasts much of the morning-news fluff and lends weight to the stories that really matter. For not strangling Bass with his own whoopee cushion or uttering even one syllable in anger, Scott deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. There is, however, but so much that is within our control.
