It’s less than a minute long, but this YouTube clip says more about the state of mass transit in Baltimore than any economic analysis, scholarly treatise, or piece of journalism one could muster. Posted a year ago by BaltoTransitArchives, it shows one nearly empty Metro train pulling into the nearly empty Johns Hopkins Metro station at rush hour as another nearly empty Metro train pulls out, with six people taking the escalator down to catch them. It’s a moving picture of transit desolation, so stark it could, if you cared enough, make you cry. We don’t, but we wish we could.
