Swimmable Harbor by 2020

Over the summer, you might have noticed barges with cranes lifting big weights onto an old pier in Fells Point. Well, apparently it was a load-bearing test to see if the pier was fit for a future construction project. That project—and bear with us here—is “a green machine that cleans water, provides habitat, and adds a one-of-a-kind living sculpture to the waterfront.” That’s from the FB page of Healthy Harbor, a group aspiring to make the Inner Harbor “swimmable and fishable by 2020.” Sounds far-fetched, sure. But, at least for the pier, Healthy Harbor has already secured a grant, and if there’s one thing that can help dedicated visionaries accomplish the unlikely, it’s dollars.
