Future Islands with Jenn Wasner, “The Great Fire”

Musicians around town have known that Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak has one of the loveliest voices in Baltimore since well before the breakout success of their latest album, Civilian; over the last few years, she’s contributed guest vocals to songs by Caleb Stine, White Life, Mickey Free, Height With Friends, and St. Even, among others. But one of her greatest turns to date was on the late 2011 Future Islands album On The Water, where Wasner’s voice weaves in and out of frontman Sam Herring’s on the chorus and then takes center stage in all its hypnotic beauty on the second verse.
