Since debuting last fall with the original production Apartment 213, about the complicated psyche of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, Iron Crow Theatre has carved a singular path all its own through the city’s now bustling independent theater community. The ensemble company is dedicated to exploring queer/LGBT issues and works, but to those ends it brings considerable dramatic chops and acting acumen. From the starkly affecting 213, written by and starring Associate Director Joseph Ritsch, through its local debut of Adam Bock’s absurdly witty Swimming in the Shallows on through its poignant staging of Love and Human Remains and bringing performance artist Holly Hughes to town during Pride, Iron Crow isn’t just addressing the needs of the queer community, it’s delivering standout theater. And with an upcoming season that includes Daniel MacIvor’s The Soldier Dreams and company member Sarah Lynn Taylor’s original work I Want to be a Gay Icon!, it doesn’t look like the company is losing any of its first season’s momentum.
