Dan Deacon’s “True Thrush”
Published: September 19, 2012
Deacon’s smart, high-energy, creative, optimistic spirit reflects the Baltimore arts community so well, it’s scary, and this video is like a four-minute, 58-second encapsulation of the same spirit. The clip is a visual game of telephone: Deacon and director Ben O’Brien start by performing a short but detailed skit, then has another pair recreate it from memory, then another, until 19 sets of people—including lots of local arts luminaries, including BMA director Doreen Bolger and members of Future Islands—have taken a turn. The skit became an ecstatic, messy affair, far removed from the original. We love everything about it—and the song too—and look forward to whatever Deacon comes up with next.
