Best Live Band: J. Roddy Walston and the Business

jroddywalstonandthebusiness.com

No shoegazing here. Unabashed rock and roll is what J. Roddy Walston and the Business deliver every damn time they play. Tattered, torn, bruised up a bit, and certainly hairy, these boys bring it to the crowd time and time again. Relentless touring has them all over the country, but when they return to Baltimore, the roof is always raised. Their live show is second to none in the energy department and always draws a crowd. The obvious comparison is Jerry Lee Lewis, but J. Roddy has a lot more going on—no disrespect intended to the Killer. With hooks that go on for days, his music is a great mash-up of many killer elements, taken from rock and roll’s most soulful and grittiest veterans. Soulful beyond his years, Walston’s lyrics are heartfelt and poetic. If you don’t see the band while it’s burning bright, you shouldn’t even call yourself a music fan. And they ain’t bad on record either.
