Best Inexplicably Cut-off Art Show
Baltimore Liste

What the hell happened? That’s what a lot of folks in the art scene wondered when the Contemporary Museum’s supposedly three-week Baltimore Liste show was cut off, mid-run, with no warning. It turned out that the Contemporary was suspending operations and firing its staff. Whatever the reasoning behind the move, it seems insane not to have waited until the show— specifically designed by (now former) director Sue Spaid to reach out to the local art community—ended. Why alienate half the galleries in town when you already feel like you’re struggling to be relevant? Whatever the museum board’s reasons, the artists and galleries who had invested in the Liste didn’t deserve to be treated this a’way.
