Best Hip-Hop DJ
Scottie B.
Published: September 19, 2012
Other than perhaps trading in vinyl for Serato, it doesn’t seem like all that much has changed for Scottie B. since he first started spinning records, selling records, and making mixtapes in the city, back in the ’80s. Along the way, he helped birth Baltimore Club music and co-founded the genre’s greatest label, Unruly Records, which he continues to run with Shawn Caesar, while presiding over the city’s DJ culture as one of its most revered elder statesmen. But mostly he’s just still playing the music he loves at spots like Red Maple and Joe Squared, and still demonstrating that he’s probably lived through and forgotten more hip-hop history than most other DJs in town will ever experience.
