Best Coming Out
DDm

Midas, sometimes called Dappa!!! Dan Midas and now going by DDm, was one of Baltimore’s most notorious battle rappers, and over the past few years, he released a whole bunch of excellent material with Mania Music Group and more recently as a solo artist with Unruly Records. At some point or another, rumors that Midas, a stylish, swaggering MC, is gay started bouncing around the hip-hop scene. He didn’t address it much; he just kept on rapping his ass off, molding his hard-edged rhymes into an inexplicable roughneck hip-hop-meets-house-diva intensity. In July, DDm appeared on the cover of Baltimore Gay Life magazine as “Baltimore’s first openly gay rapper.” It’s a bold choice and, in a hip-hop scene pathetically obsessed with ideas of “realness” that involve violence and tough talk, DDm chose to actually get real and just be himself.
