No, disgraced former Texas Congressman Tom DeLay did not move to Maryland and buy a drum machine. And no, the Baltimore beatsmith bearing his name does not use a particularly significant amount of delay effects in his productions. But Tom Delay has displayed an impressive versatility as the in-house producer for local label Brake Fast Records, fashioning both effective backdrops for battle-rap champ A-Class and a whole array of Baltimore rappers and samples from television’s Columbo on his solo album Cases. But Delay’s crowning achievement is his handful of super-grimy bangers on Dirt Platoon’s triumphant 2010 album Deeper Than Dirt.
