Lesser Gonzalez Alvarez is the actual embodiment of a Renaissance man. Moving effortlessly between various artistic media, music, and writing, Alvarez is successful and prolific in each area. He maintains a consistent hand and sensibility while continuing to produce exciting and surprising new works. In the past year, he has dramatically upped his scale to create conceptual digital work, multimedia installations, videos, and sculpture. For his solo exhibition at Open Space, Alvarez blended virtual and physical space as he explored themes of contemporary ruins and retraced remnants of fast-paced, poorly planned development. He also created a series of cast multiples (concrete Big Gulp cups), a screen print, and a book of poetry. In every medium, Lesser finds a clever, often deceptively beautiful way to convey his message.
