Best Summer Jam: Jumbled, Snobaltimore

Best Summer Jam

Jumbled, “Snobaltimore”

In the face-melting humidity of Baltimore summers, the sweetest way to beat the heat is by stopping at a roadside stand and having a sno-ball. And in tribute to his hometown’s favorite summertime confection, local rapper Jumbled, of the group Napalm Def, released a perfectly timed little tune called “Snobaltimore” right at the crest of early July’s heatwave. His fast, plainspoken flow and choppy, lo-fi beat make the track feel a little, well, jumbled, but the affectionate details of the lyrics are pitch-perfect, from hitting on girls in line to debating favorite flavors: “Cherry, watermelon, or even grape/ if you wanna try spearmint, I ain’t gonna hate.” Instead of ’mallow, Jumbled tops off the song with a Baltimore club breakdown and a chorus sung by three women, two of whom wrote the sno-ball-themed zine that gave the song its title.
