Best Dance Party
Four Hours of Funk
Published: September 21, 2011
A million times yes. DJs Exclaime and Fleg have, in the most unassuming manner possible for nightlife promoters, gotten nearly everything right with their monthly night at the Windup Space. The music’s great, looking back to house and, yes, funk while not holding too closely if at all to being retro. Call it affection for rather than allegiance to the old days of dance—you might hear something new or even something hot at Four Hours of Funk, but it’ll be good enough to please even dance aficionados. The people make a dance party too, and Exclaime and Fleg bring ’em all in, from the city’s hard-core breakdance crew to yuppies to hipsters to city kids, without really catering to any one group specifically. Which is part of the beauty of it.
