Best Cheap Drinks

Mount Royal Tavern

1204 W. Mount Royal Ave., (410) 669-6686

A guy splits with his girlfriend and ends up in Baltimore with about 20 bucks and he needs to get loaded. And he doesn’t know bartenders who will pour a little more and charge a little less. Where does he go? That was our mission. We really didn’t want to give Best Cheap Drinks to Mount Royal Tavern yet again, just for the sake of variety. So we used it as the standard, and set out to find a reasonably accessible place that is cheaper. Beer is pretty standard and would only be used as a secondary determinant. Liquor was the big game. We started with the low-end Pikesville Rye on the rocks and a top-shelf vodka and tonic (there were two of us). The rye was $3.50 and the vodka $6.25. Both were big and strong. And though we tried hard, we never found anything cheaper. The closest competitor was newcomer Liam Flynn’s, which has a cheaper rye. So, hypothetical stranger, sorry about your girlfriend, dude. Go on down to the Mount Royal Tavern, where your $20 will help you forget.
