Best Bar to Be a Designated Driver

Alexander’s Tavern

710 S. Broadway, (410) 522-0000, alexanderstavern.com

When we think designated driver, our first thought (after “bummer”) is entertainment. Alcohol can make the worst bar seem fun; a lack thereof can make even a good bar sucky, especially if the patrons and/or your friends are being particularly obnoxious. Fortunately, Fells Point’s Alexander’s has entertainment galore of the nondrinking variety, plus daily (half-price pizza!) and nightly ($5 build-your-own tots!) food specials that will keep your stomach happy and fill your drunk friends with bar-tab envy at the end of the night. The joint is home to a taco-eating contest every Tuesday (careful; they’re a buck each if you don’t break the 30-taco record) and trivia night every Wednesday; six big flat-screen TVs; and an upstairs bar with free wifi, Foosball, darts, shuffleboard, Twister, and Wii. Ample outdoor seating provides a front-row seat to the nightly people-watching show that is Broadway Square, with a perfect view of the harbor all pretty and lit-up like. And though we thoroughly discourage drinking and driving, Alexander’s has enough cheap drink specials that you can probably sneak a beer onto one of your friends’ tabs early in the night to reward yourself for the good deed you’ll be doing later on.
