Sizzlin’ Summer

Sizzlin’ Summer: Summer in Baltimore is a sensory explosion, from the scent of Old Bay-smothered steamed crabs and the taste of marshmallow-topped chocolate snoballs to the smell of Ocean City salt water mixed with sunscreen and the vision of fireflies. 5/15/2013

21 AND OVER
From the directors of The Hangover comes another exploration of intoxication—and this one is for the kids. An Asian-American college student turns 21, gets plastered, pals around with some buddies, falls out a window, plays beer pong, dresses in a bikini, whatever, etc. Opens March 1.

JACK THE GIANT SLAYER
Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, and some lesser-known 20-somethings star in this mashup of English folk tale and Lord of the Rings-esque battle scenes. A princess, a beanstalk, giants, a farmboy named Jack, battle scenes, and a love story factor into this PG-13 action-adventure flick. Bryan Singer (X-Men, The Usual Suspects) directs. Opens March 1.

THE LAST EXORCISM PART II
We’re guessing the first last exorcism wasn’t final enough—and as a result, we’re all being treated to another spine-contorting, head-spinning installment of the franchise. Opens March 1.

LORE
A pretty, blue-eyed, blond-haired German teen plays the heroine in this Australian-German-British film, fresh off the film festival circuit. Lore leads her siblings on a 500-mile journey by foot through World War II-ravaged Germany after her Nazi-supporting parents are arrested. When the children encounter a Jewish refugee, Lore’s own beliefs are challenged. Opens at the Charles Theatre March 1.

TABU
Portuguese director Miguel Gomes opts for black and white in this nostalgia-saturated 2012 drama, which flashes back from an elderly woman’s present-day existence to her wild, passionate past, when she lived in an African colony and had an affair with a handsome traveler. Playing at the Charles Theatre March 2, 4, and 7.
